Charles Alcock (1842-1907)

The founder of the FA Cup, Charles Alcock, also captained the first team to win it – the Wanderers. He helped organised the first international football match and was captain of that team too. The game was England v Scotland. It took place at the Oval on a windy day in March 1870 and ended in a 0-0 draw. Multi-talented, Charles was also a cricketer and a pioneer of sports journalism.
